Quick and Easy Homemade BBQ Sauce

Quick and Easy Vegan BBQ Sauce

Time and energy permitting, I always prefer to make my sauces and dressings at home. Not only are they cheaper than store-bought versions, the taste is far superior and the cook gets to control the portions and seasonings. Usually homemade condiments last for a least a few weeks in a covered container in the fridge depending on what you are making up.

Barbecue sauce is not something I have on hand because I don't own a barbecue or grill. But as I have discovered, barbecue sauce has many merits and can be paired with any number of appetizers or used as a condiment for vegetable, grain or bean burgers. This was so easy to make and it was done in under 5 minutes. No food processor or blender is needed — simply whisk together the ingredients until well blended and it's all done. This tangy, slightly smoky and sweet sauce will keep in the fridge for about 2 weeks. If you want to up the heat, add more hot sauce. I served it as a condiment to go along with some savory kidney bean and brown rice balls as well as for a glaze for a chickpea loaf, the recipe for which I will be sharing soon.
